A couple nights ago I saw the Tragically Hip play at Rogers Arena as part of their farewell tour. It was a very emotional experience. The hip have been played on a regular basis in my house as long as I can remember. The were my mom’s favourite band and my babysitter, who turned out to be pretty much my older sister, Kimi’s favourite band as well. Their impact was somewhat lost on me until a few years ago when I realized the beauty of Gord Downie’s lyrics and the absolute magnetism he has as a front man. Downie and his band were heavily on my mind for last night’s show at the Charqui Grill in beautiful Kitsilano. It was a fun show. A lot of family and friends came out and after a few technical difficulties we had a great time. I hope tonight sets the tone for the whole tour.
